Hoshangabad is a city and a municipality in Hoshangabad district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is a city in the central India region, on the south bank of the Narmada River, and is the administrative center of Hoshangabad District. As of 2001 India census,Hoshangabad had a population of 97,357. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Hoshangabad has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 66%.
