Betul District is one among 50 Districts of Madhya Pradesh State, India. In 2006 the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Betul one of the country’s 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640). It is one of the 24 districts in Madhya Pradesh currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF).
As of the census taken in 2001, the district has a total population of 13, 94,421 people spread in around 1328 villages. The Total area of District is 10043 Sq.km, with a population density of 139/sq.km. The district has a Sex Ratio of 965. Betul has an average literacy rate of 66.9%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 77.3% of the males and 56.1% of females were literate. Betul topography is predominantly hilly.
